TaoBao

Oh.  My TaoBao order came in today.  I was really not expecting that, since it shipped on Tuesday and they said it would take 5-10 days.  Here are my reviews.  Unfortunately, I can't find my camera, so all images are cell phone shots.  There's a lot of text, so:

I like online shopping...

I haven't really been doing anything this Reading Week.  I came down with a cold on Friday, so I've been staying in bed with my laptop and some tea all week.

Anyways, my TaoBao order shipped, so I'll post pictures when it comes in (next week, probably).  One of the pairs of shoes I ordered (white pumps with little pink polkadots) was out of stock in my size, but that can't be helped.   My current order consists of: a DoL Fantasic Dolly replica JSK (normal waist) in white, a pair of black boots for my Franziska cosplay (I think they're from Kiss Shoes, but it might be Yaya), and a short brown wig and two pairs of false lashes from Fantasy Sheep.

My EpicCosplay order came in.  I originally wanted a short wig + extensions, but the extensions were out of stock so they gave me a long wig for the price of the short wig.  The order also included wigs for three others, but I haven't seen them out of the package.  I didn't want to take them out of the bags, since we wouldn't be able to return them in that case.  Everyone's happy with the quality. The colour accuracy, not so much. One of my friends said that the dark red looked less saturated in person (which was good for the cosplay in question) and the walnut brown looked lighter (which was bad for the cosplay in question).

The wig really is nice.  I had heard people say they didn't tangle much, so I put it on a head and shook it, and rubbed a towel on it.  It didn't get tangles and there were no static flyaways.  What was most impressive, though, was that I could style it with long sleeves on and not have it stick to my arms.

My wig was in copper red for my FeMC cosplay.  The colour is perfect, but I was going for a redder tone (because I prefer a red-blue contrast between FeMC and MC to brown-blue) so I don't think colour accuracy is too important in this case (since her hair colour is all over the fucking place different people will have different opinions on what the perfect colour is).  I had originally planned to use the extensions to make a clip-on and do something like this, but when I ended up with the long wig, I tried this.  I don't like how it came out, so I think I'm going to chop up the long wig to make a short wig + extensions and go with my first idea.

Anyone with anime figures: what do you do about oiling?  My TotA Ion figure started oiling recently.  It's a trading figure so I know the plastic quality isn't that great, but it's become difficult to get a hold of so I'd like to know some way to clean it off.  I've only found prevention tips through Google.  Well, there was something about sticking it in the freezer and then wiping it down, but that didn't help.  I'm really annoyed now that I sold my extra Ion last year.

Lol exams

I think we all know by now that when I disappear it's because I've been taken in by exams, yes?  I had three midterms (bio, chem, and genetics), a short essay (philosophy) and two labs (bio and chem) in the past week.  Fun.  It's now reading week, so I fully intend to sleep all week.  On Monday I actually fell asleep in the hallway while I was waiting for my genetics tutorial to start. :/

Today's exam was genetics.  That course is easy as fuck.  We are doing Punnett squares.  That's how easy it is.   Hello, GPA-booster.

In contrast, we dissected fruit fly ovaries in the Bio lab yesterday.  Do you know how hard it is to tear a fruit fly in half when your tweezers don't touch closely enough to grip it?  After forty minutes, we (the four of us at our lab bench) only had six sets of ovaries extracted. We kept tearing the heads off instead of tearing the abdomen apart.  The dissecting microscope made it harder because it offered no depth perception and you couldn't focus on both tweezers and the fruit fly at the same time.

I'd been holding off on getting my hair cut because it was too expensive.  (My hair was ass-length, so I was going to be hit hard with the "long hair" surcharges--most of the places I called quoted me at around $100.)  It's been really windy around here lately, so my hair's been tangling horribly every time I so much as think of going outside.  It's been a pain to tie it up whenever I'm studying.  So last night, I chopped it to my shoulders.   I mean that literally. I went in the washroom, grabbed the scissors and started cutting.

I've cut plenty of wigs, so it's not like I had no idea what I was doing.  It came out nicely and only took about fifteen to twenty minutes.  Last time I had a professional haircut, it took two and a half hours and I ended up with a soccer mom bob. :/

Speaking of wigs, I cut my Franziska wig last week.  It looks good.  I ordered my FeMC wig, and I'm waiting for that to come in now.

KH:Coded has Castle Oblivion in it.  CoM was my favourite game so that makes me happy,  but after the end of BBS,  I don't want to see Castle Oblivion.

Yes, I am a KH fanbrat

I got Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on the weekend.  So far my track record with KH games has been:
  • PS2 Kingdom Hearts - good
  • GBA Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories - better
  • PS2 Kingdom Hearts II - not as fun as I and the plot was worse, but I liked the gameplay more, so it evens out
  • DS Kingdom Hearts: Whatever/2 Days - I never finished this. Boring as fuck
  • PSP Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep - omg this was wonderful, best game in the series
So yeah, I was planning to skip Re:Coded because the last DS game was shit, but BBS won me back over.  They should have skipped Days and spent that time making BBS even better.

My first impression of Coded isn't great, though. A pet peeve of mine is that they use Simple and Clean for EVERY game that's not 2.  It's kind of stale.  Also, the opening FMV is all recycled animation.  Kind of boring.  Also, lol a scene from CoM (with little Sora) was dubbed over with grown Sora's voice.  Some Puberty Power going on right there.

Also, they just showed Jiminy and his journal.  It is scaled to cricket size, which I should have expected, but how did Sora & Co manage to read that?  Poor Jiminy must have had to read aloud.  No wonder his voice is hoarse.

Did Sora even have a journal entry in the games?  Seems like it would have been redundant...

My Yuri figure and Aigis figma came in over the weekend.  I got hit by customs for the first time.  They charged me $15 in tax, and $13 as a "handling fee".  So I paid customs $13 to charge me.  IT'S OKAY, CUSTOMS.  I'M TOTALLY COOL WITH THAT. >:(  I'm guessing AmiAmi's giant box drew their attention.

Seriously, the box was fucking huge. And over half empty.  Get more box sizes, AmiAmi.

Anyways, Yuri is gorgeous. My only problem is that the base is just molded plastic and I like solid bases, but the plastic is thick, so it's not cheap and flimsy like the bases for P3's protag and Akihiko.  The paint job on the clothing is gorgeous. The hair sculpt is gorgeous.  It was worth the money.  The figure's got a nice weight to it, too.  The sword's blade sparkles (I swear, it looks better than it sounds) and the black part of the scabbard is shiner and looks lacquered.  Anyways, it's an Alter figure, of course it's good.  The light parts of his shirt are raised, too.  I was just expecting them to be painted on.

My Aigis figma is unique.  There's a drop of black paint under one of her eyes on the neutral face, so she has a mole, I guess.  I am impressed with the sculpt.  Beneath those flared gold things on her hips, there are folds of what I'm assuming would be some sort of rubber or canvas covering her leg mechanism.  I was expecting that area to be flat. I want to file her neck down, though.  She's a short haired figma, but her neck is long enough to restrict the joint's movement.  I was impressed with the detail of the paint job, though.  I was expecting it to be like the Miku figma, where some details weren't included.  I never noticed how long Aigis' shins are, though.  Damn, she has short thighs and long shins...

I lost one of my earrings at school yesterday.  It probably came off when I took off my scarf.  They were just from F21, so it's not like they were valuable, they were just really cute.  They were long, with chains and keys. Since they were my favourite pair, the remaining earring is now becoming a cell phone charm.

School

I like this term.  I have Fridays and alternate Wednesdays off.  The Wednesdays that I do go to school and all Tuesdays are half days.

I went to my mom's office on Thursday since I had a two hour break between classes and her office is about five minutes away.  One of her coworkers has a chihuahua puppy that's not yet old enough to stay home alone.  I like being able to play with a puppy between classes.  She's so cute.

We had a safety orientation for Chem on Thursday morning.  We used the same damn lab last year.  We know where to dispose of our chemicals and where the fire extinguishers are.  I did not want to wake up early for that.  When we were watching the safety video, out TA started giggling at one of the pictures of an explosion.  When we looked at him, he whispered "That was two floors up, over the Christmas break!"

Gundam 00 Movie

Someone asked in my last post if I wore wigs daily.  I don't.  My hair is still thick enough to use, but it's very thin.  It's too thin to style, so I usually wear it down.  It's also too thin for bangs, and I'm afraid of dying or bleaching it.  That's why I wanted the TaoBao wig for daily wear. It's a lighter brown than my hair and it has bangs.

It used to make me very nervous, but I've accepted it for the most part.

Main reason for this post: I was clogging up Twitter by constantly posting about the Gundam 00 movie, so I decided to do that here.  Lots of points, but it's a long movie. Summary: most of it had me shaking in fear (not quite because it was scary, but because it hit pretty much all of my phobias at once) but it got better.  The doorknob scene made me shake for a while. It's the same type of handle that my bedroom door has, too. The movie wasn't that great, though.  It felt more like Macross without singing than a Gundam series.
